Stubbs S80 Plastic Feed Scoop – 2 Litre
The S80 is the scoop most British feed rooms measure by. Two litres dry capacity, which Stubbs put at roughly 2kg of cubes, 1.5kg of a coarse mix or 0.5kg of chaff — so once you know what your horse gets in scoops, you know what it gets in kilos.
The body is a Stubbythene moulding, thick enough to take being dropped on concrete and driven into a compacted bag, and the handle is Stubbyfine-coated steel rather than plastic, which is the part that usually fails on cheaper scoops. It weighs 410g empty and measures 10cm high by 23cm wide.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 2 litre dry capacity — Stubbs' own guide is 2kg of cubes, 1.5kg of mix or 0.5kg of chaff.
- Graduated markings moulded in, so part scoops can be measured rather than guessed.
- Stubbythene body that survives being dropped and driven into a full bag.
- Stubbyfine-coated steel handle rather than a moulded plastic loop.
- 410g empty, so it stays light in the hand when full.
- Stubbs call it the recognised measure of the feed industry, and most feed charts assume it.
Suitable For
- Measuring hard feed, cubes, mix, chaff and balancer in the feed room.
- Yards where several people feed and portions need to match.
- Scooping from deep bags and part-full bins.
- Anyone who weighs feed once and then works in scoops.
- Not a bailing scoop for water or a shovel for bedding — the handle is set for lifting feed, not liquid weight.
How to Use
- Weigh one level scoop of each feed you use on kitchen scales and write the answer on the bin.
- Fill to a graduation rather than heaping, or the measure stops meaning anything.
- Hang it by the handle rather than leaving it buried in the bin.
- Wash in warm soapy water and dry it — a damp scoop left in a bag draws mould into the feed.
