Sundown Sun-e-Bed Straw Pellet Bedding for Horses – 15kg Bag
Sundown Sun-e-Bed Straw Pellet Bedding – 15kg
Sun-e-Bed is British straw compressed into a soft pellet that expands into a fine, fluffy bed once it is down. The distinction Sundown draw against wood pellets and against most straw pellets is that theirs is a soft crumble rather than a hard nib, and it does not need watering — the horse's own weight and movement break it open, so you tip the bags out and leave it.
What that buys you is absorbency and a very small muck heap. Urine is drawn in and clumps, so a wet patch lifts out as a lump instead of soaking sideways through the bed. Sundown reckon roughly 60 bags — a pallet — sees one horse through a year, which is where a pellet bed pays back against a bale bed you are constantly topping up.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Soft crumble pellet rather than a hard one, so it opens out into a comfortable bed.
- No watering needed — the pellets break down under the horse.
- Highly absorbent, drawing urine in quickly and holding down odour.
- Wet patches clump, so you remove a lump rather than a barrowful.
- Very low waste, which keeps the muck heap and the removal bill small.
- Made from British straw, a by-product of the grain harvest, and BETA NOPS approved.
- Supplied in a recyclable LDPE bag that stacks and stores easily.
Suitable For
- Wet or messy horses where a straw bale bed gets soaked through.
- Yards short on muck heap space or paying for waste removal.
- Horses that eat a straw bed and need something they will not pick at.
- Competition yards, as the range is BETA NOPS approved.
- A slower start than a bale bed — if you need a stable bedded in ten minutes tonight, Sundown Green or Yellow chopped straw is the quicker option.
How to Use
- Spread 6–8 bags evenly across the stable floor for a new bed, depending on stable size and the depth you want.
- Do not add water. The pellets fluff up naturally as the horse works them.
- Top up with 1–2 bags a week to keep the depth.
- Skip out the clumped wet patches daily and turn the dry bedding back over the base.
- Sundown put annual use at around 60 bags — one pallet — per horse.
