TopSpec Turbo Flakes – 20kg

Turbo Flakes sit at the top of the TopSpec energy range and are aimed squarely at the racing yard: flat and National Hunt horses in work, and anything doing fast work that has run out of room in the bucket. TopSpec declare 40.0% starch, 11.0% oil and 16.0 MJ/kg as fed, with protein at 13.5%.

They differ from Super Conditioning Flakes in intent rather than energy. Both run at 16.0 MJ/kg and 11% oil, but Turbo Flakes carry a mineral premix and glucose syrup and are formulated for fast-release energy, where the Super Conditioning Flakes are built around soya at 15% protein for putting condition on. TopSpec note that 5kg a day supplies the oil equivalent of 550ml of soya oil.

Performance & Benefits
  • 40.0% declared starch with 11.0% oil — fast-release and slow-release energy in the same feed.
  • 16.0 MJ/kg as fed, the highest energy density in the TopSpec range.
  • Micronised flaked naked oats and micronised full fat flaked soya beans, both processed for digestibility.
  • Fed at 5kg a day it supplies the oil equivalent of 550ml of soya oil.
  • A mineral premix is included, though no vitamins or trace elements.
  • Very palatable, which makes it useful for a horse in heavy training that has gone off its feed.
<>
Suitable For
  • Flat and National Hunt racehorses in training.
  • Eventers and horses in fast work needing energy in a manageable volume.
  • Horses already at their feed intake limit that still need more calories.
  • Fussy feeders in hard work, used strategically in small amounts.
  • Not appropriate for horses in light work, good doers, or any horse prone to laminitis, EMS or a starch-sensitive muscle disorder — TopSpec Performance Cubes at 13.0% starch or UlsaKind Cubes at 7.0% are the lower-starch alternatives we stock.

Feeding
  • TopSpec publish no daily quantity table for Turbo Flakes beyond the 5kg example used for the oil comparison, so no rate is stated here. Feed to workload under professional guidance.
  • Feed alongside a TopSpec balancer or the All-in-One supplement — these flakes carry no added vitamins or trace elements.
  • Split the daily amount across two or more feeds, keeping single meals small.
  • Introduce over two to three weeks.
  • Ensure clean, fresh water and ad lib forage are always available.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: micronised flaked naked oats, micronised full fat flaked soya beans (GM), molasses, mineral premix, glucose syrup.
  • Typical analysis: protein 13.5%, oil 11.0%, fibre 3.0%, starch 40.0%.
  • Digestible energy 16.0 MJ/kg as fed.
  • No added vitamins or trace elements; a mineral premix is included.
  • TopSpec publish no separate sugar percentage, so none is stated here, although glucose syrup and molasses both appear in the composition.
  • 20kg bag.
<>
Care & Caution
  • At 40.0% starch and 3.0% fibre this is a feed for horses in genuine hard and fast work. It is not suitable for a good doer, a horse in light work, or any horse prone to laminitis, EMS, PPID or a starch-sensitive muscle disorder.
  • Keep meals small and frequent. Large starch meals overwhelm small intestinal digestion and push starch into the hindgut, where it ferments to lactic acid.
  • Introduce over two to three weeks and reduce the amount on rest days.
