Westland The Gardener's Multi-Purpose Compost – 46L
The Gardener's is Westland's traditional peat compost, made from premium grade Irish blended peat, and the 46 litre bag is the smallest of three sizes running up to 80 litres. Westland balance it with the nutrients and trace elements a general-purpose mix needs and rate it to feed for four to five weeks.
Peat is what it is: consistent bag to bag, easy to wet and easy to keep wet, and forgiving of irregular watering in a way that peat-free mixes are not. Westland describe it as absorbing water for strong root and plant growth, and it is intended for everything — trees, shrubs, vegetables, pots and borders alike.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 46 litre bag; also sold in 50L and 80L.
- Premium grade Irish blended peat, balanced for general-purpose use.
- Nutrients and trace elements in balance, feeding for four to five weeks.
- Absorbs and holds water well, so watering is less critical than with a peat-free mix.
- One compost for plants, vegetables, trees and shrubs rather than a specialist mix.
Suitable For
- Pots, containers, tubs and hanging baskets.
- Beds, borders and general planting projects.
- Planting trees, shrubs, soft fruit and vegetables.
- Seed sowing and striking cuttings, using the instructions on the bag.
- Unsuitable for ericaceous, lime-hating plants; and if you are working peat-free, Westland's Boost All Purpose Container Compost is the equivalent in that range.
How to Use
- Rework the compost by hand before use to bring its structure back.
- Containers: put a drainage layer in the base, fill with compost, plant and water in.
- Beds and borders: dig a hole to suit the root ball, add a layer of compost, backfill and water.
- Seed: fill the tray, firm gently, water, then sow to the packet instructions.
- Cuttings: fill a pot, treat the cutting with rooting powder, insert and cover.
- Reseal the bag after use and store it in a dry, frost-free place away from chemicals.
