Whimzees Rice Bone Dental Dog Chew – Large, Box of 23
Twenty-three Large Ricebones is a little over three weeks at one a day. It is the smallest of the bulk boxes we list, which makes it a reasonable way to test whether a bigger dog will take to the bone shape before committing to a larger count.
Read the ingredient list before you order: rice comes first, and Whimzees except the Ricebone by name from the grain-free claim they make for the rest of the range. Crude protein is 4.0% and crude fibre 3.1%, both different from every other shape.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 23 Large chews, roughly three weeks of daily dental care.
- 189 kcal per chew — about 4,350 kcal across the box.
- Grooved bone shape that works into the gaps between teeth.
- Rice-based, so crude protein sits at 4.0% rather than the 1.1% of the other shapes.
- Meat-free, like the rest of the Whimzees range.
- A smaller bulk box than the 30s and 50s, so less of a commitment.
Suitable For
- Large dogs of 18–27kg fed one chew a day.
- Owners trialling bulk buying without a month-plus commitment.
- Dogs that prefer a familiar bone shape.
- Not for a dog on a grain-free diet — the Whimzees Toothbrush Large, Box of 30 is the grain-free equivalent.
- Dogs of 11–18kg want the Whimzees Rice Bone Medium/Large, Box of 50.
Feeding
- One chew per dog per day.
- 189 kcal per chew, 23 chews per box.
- Whimzees size their chews by bodyweight: XS 2–7kg, S 7–11kg, M 11–18kg, L 18–27kg, XL over 27kg.
- Whimzees publish bag and box counts for some markets but no pack count for this box on their own site, so the count here is the pack as supplied.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: rice, potato starch, glycerin, powdered cellulose, lecithin, dried yeast, malt extract, sweet lupine meal.
- Typical analysis: crude protein 4.0%, fat content 2.0%, crude fibre 3.1%, crude ash 2.4%, moisture 12%.
- Eight ingredients, rice first. The analysis differs from the other Whimzees shapes on both protein and fibre.
- Whimzees' grain-free claim specifically excludes the Ricebone.
Care & Caution
- Whimzees state these are not suitable for dogs under nine months old, or for any dog under 2.3kg.
- Whimzees warn that swallowing any item without thoroughly chewing it may be harmful or even fatal — stay in the room and take the last short piece away.
- Feed one correctly sized chew a day only, and always leave fresh water down.
