Woof Wear Club Brushing Boot – Black, Small

A brushing boot has one job, and it is a specific one: it sits on the inside of the leg and takes the blow when the opposite hoof strikes it. The Club Brushing Boot does that with a toughened vinyl and PU strike pad moulded over the inside face, built onto a 7mm neoprene base, so the impact lands on plastic rather than on the cannon bone.

Woof Wear make the boot in a single shape for front or hind legs, but the size you need differs between the two. In Small, Woof Wear's chart puts this boot on the front legs of ponies from 12.2hh to 14.1hh, and on the hind legs of smaller ponies from 10.0hh to 13.1hh. Supplied as a pair.

Suitable For

• Ponies of 12.2–14.1hh, on the front legs.
• Smaller ponies of 10.0–13.1hh, on the hind legs.
• Schooling, hacking, lungeing and turnout.
• Horses and ponies that brush or dish and mark the inside of the opposite leg.
• This is not a tendon boot. It offers no support and only limited cover behind the tendon, so a horse jumping and needing tendon protection wants an open-fronted tendon boot instead.
• Too small for anything much above 14.1hh in front — the Woof Wear Club Brushing Boot in Medium is the next size up, and a cobby, round-legged native may need the Medium Extra Wide.

How to Use

• Fit with the strike pad against the inside of the leg and the straps fastening from front to back, outwards.
• Set the boot so the pad covers the fetlock and lower cannon, with the top edge clear of the knee or hock.
• Fasten firmly enough that the boot cannot rotate, but loosely enough to slide a finger under the top edge.
• Close all straps before washing. Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin, using a non-biological detergent.
• Do not tumble dry and do not leave in strong sunlight.

Care & Caution

• Grit and sand working in between the neoprene and the skin is the usual cause of rubs. Knock the boots out and run a hand down the leg every time they come off.
• Not for leaving on around the clock. Neoprene traps heat, and a boot left on a wet or dirty leg for long spells will scald it.
• Take the boots off if the skin is already broken or sore, and let it heal before booting the leg again.
