Woof Wear Medical Hoof Boot – Navy, Size 9
Size 9 is the largest Medical Hoof Boot Woof Wear make, for a hoof measuring 158–166mm across and 179–189mm long — a draft, a heavy cob or a big flat-footed warmblood. If your horse needs this size you will already know, because nothing off the shelf fits him.
The boot itself is a veterinary item, not riding kit. Woof Wear supply it for stress-free poulticing and hoof care: holding a poultice or dressing against an abscessed or wounded foot and keeping that foot clean and dry, stabled or in the paddock. Super-stretch neoprene pulls on over the dressing, a Kevlar inner sole resists wear from underneath, and a non-slip rubber outsole gives grip on concrete. Sold as a single boot.
<>Performance & Benefits
- The largest size in the range, so a very big or very flat foot can be dressed properly.
- Stretch neoprene upper that accommodates a thick poultice and still grips the pastern.
- Kevlar inner sole, which is what stands up to a heavy horse's weight on rough ground.
- Non-slip rubber outsole — a lame heavy horse slipping on wet concrete is a real risk.
- Suits shod or barefoot feet.
- Sold singly rather than as a pair.
Suitable For
- Hooves 158–166mm wide and 179–189mm long — drafts, heavy cobs and large warmbloods.
- Poulticing, medicating and protecting a wound or abrasion, as Woof Wear describe the boot.
- Keeping a treated foot clean and dry in the stable or the field.
- Shod and barefoot horses.
- If the foot measures under 158mm wide, drop to the size 8 (149–157mm). Woof Wear ask for a snug fit to avoid slippage, and there is no size above this one, so measure before you order.
- Not a riding hoof boot for a barefoot horse. That is a different product with a different sole and fit.
How to Use
- Measure the hoof at its widest and longest points in millimetres before ordering — a big foot is where guessing goes wrong.
- Dress or poultice the foot first, then draw the stretch neoprene upper over the hoof and up onto the pastern.
- Fasten so the boot cannot twist or slide down, without constricting the pastern.
- Woof Wear require a deep, robust overreach boot over the top to protect it; they recommend their Ultra Overreach Boot, which we stock in sizes up to XXL.
- Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle spin with non-biological detergent. Do not tumble dry or leave in strong sunlight.
Specification
- Super-stretch neoprene upper, Kevlar inner sole, non-slip rubber outsole.
- Size 9: hoof width 158–166mm, hoof length 179–189mm. The largest of the nine sizes.
- Range runs 0 to 9, from 76mm to 166mm hoof width.
- Navy. Sold as a single boot. Woof Wear reference 1011614.
- Woof Wear size this boot by hoof width and length in millimetres, not by metal shoe size; the millimetre figures above are theirs.
Care & Caution
- Any foot needing a poultice needs a professional eye on it. Have a suspected abscess, puncture wound or unexplained lameness assessed by your vet or farrier — the boot manages a dressing, it does not diagnose or treat.
- Woof Wear state the boot is not indestructible and is not guaranteed against damage if the horse stands on it. On a heavy horse, that caveat matters more, not less.
- Do not use it without a deep overreach boot over the top, as Woof Wear specify.
- Remove daily, check the pastern and heel for rubs and the skin for softening, and re-dress as instructed by your vet.
